Wank the Vote
Okay wankers—drop the tissues, let go of the mouse and get out there and vote. I’m sure you’ve already heard plenty about Iraq, the economy, healthcare, etc. Just remember that this time the Supreme Court hangs in the balance, and the current administration would like nothing more than to crack down on sites like this and the individual freedoms associated with it.
No partisan rancor here, either: if the Democrats had fielded someone like Lieberman we’d be damned either way. Until we get candidates who are serious about limiting the influence of government and maximizing individual freedoms we’re going to be stuck choosing the lesser of two evils.
What better way to end fundamentalist repression abroad than to end it at home by chipping away at our own bloated Nanny State? What better way to stem the tide of terrorist converts than to lead by example—to show people that, here at least, we can worship our own gods and live according to our own beliefs?
MSNBC has posted a handy guide to poll closing times.

Even if you don’t vote in the Presidential race:* At the very least—because you’ve voted—you’re counted as a voter and your precinct, town, and county become that much more important to the politicians.
* There may be important local or state issues that you should weigh in on.

I just wish there were a lever that allowed a vote of no confidence in the NY state legislature. I’d love to see all those incompetent bastards tossed out on their heads.Layla | Nov 3, 02:20 PM | #

I really don’t think that President Bush even knows or cares about this website. There is still the first amendment that protects what you say. I just think that the President has better (and harder) thing to take care of, like terrorism, the economy, the environment, and social security.Layla | Nov 4, 09:51 AM | #
The president is concerned only with the wealthfare of himself and his buddies – not with issues such as the environment (especially the environment!) – you can take that for granted. And I don’t feel so secure anymore in the rights given to me in the constitution. At least 9 states voted discrimination against gay’s into theirs. And then there are things such as the Patriot Act, which is essentially a loophole, allowing those in power to trample on my rights.

“I really don’t think that President Bush even knows or cares about this website. There is still the first amendment that protects what you say.”I’ve done my homework. The first amendment does not protect obscenity, as defined by nebulous community standards. The justice department has been staffing up to go after all manner of “obscene” content. Then there’s legislation like COPA, which is more likely to survive challenges under a more conservative supreme court.
Read this and then tell me what you think. Needless to say, I’m watching the Extreme Associates case closely.

Interesting. Also a great reference on this topic is “Reefer Madness” by Eric Schlosser.Maybe you should scan the bible and have it set up and ready to replace the content of this site in case you need to take immediate action one day…
Keep us posted Lex.

After this election, I feel even more like my vote doesn’t matter. One moment I felt excited to have done my part, and the next I found myself so sadly disappointed. My question right now is how can most of the rest of the country be so wrong? Do they even care about how most of New York feels?Sarah | Nov 7, 01:38 AM | #
John, Good luck with never having to wake up from dreamland. Bush has already enacted laws that make adult sites more difficult to run. In Bush’s state, Texas, it is illegal to sell adult toys. That’s right, a vibrating piece of plastic is illegal in texas.Techie | Nov 7, 07:23 AM | #
So, why haven’t you people been voting Libertarian? Are you HAPPY with the miserable choice of Presidential candidates? Nobody is.But as long as the political parties only nominate extemists, then the general election will feature a choice between Extemist A and Extremist B – and the average voters will vote for the less extreme candidate every time.
Ask al your friends: Did you vote “FOR” somebody, or “AGAINST”? Most of the people I know voted AGAINST; AGAINST Kerry or AGAINST Bush, but NO ONE wanted to vote FOR these people.
For 2008, let’s start talking up the Libertarian party. Let’s get some candidates we can be excited to vote FOR!
